Red Velvet Mites WC
These strange creatures look like miniature spiders (they are the same family as spiders and crabs) except they have a velvet red coat. In the daytime they all come up to the surface and enjoy the light, but at night they all disappear under the substrate. They originate from India.
Approx size: 0.5 - 1cm
Food: According to the literature they will eat grasshoppers, crickets and other insects, we are feeding them on both live and dead crickets.

From New Zealand, these strange creatures have been found in fossil form dating back to Cambrian times. They enjoy damp conditions and favour moss cushions with leaf litter and rotting wood as substrate. They will ambush their prey using a slime which is squirted from their slime glands.
Approx size: 1.5 - 4cm
Food: feed on small crickets ot other small livefood.
